MoonPay CEO explains how it added NFT concierge services for celebrities like Jimmy Fallon, Snoop Dogg by “accident”

  • Ryan Weeks of The Block has an excellent interview with MoonPay CEO Ivan Soto-Wright.
  • MoonPay says it “offers the fastest way to buy and sell crypto securely. Buy crypto with credit card or bank transfers. It’s fast, simple, and secure.”
  • But it also began offering a “concierge” service for NFT purchases to celebrities, including Jimmy Fallon, Post Malone, Diplo, DJ Khaled, and Snoop Dogg.
  • Soto-Wright says there’s no minimum amount in NFT price for the concierge service, although it’s unclear whether you need to be a celebrity or high wealth individual to obtain concierge servce (we will investigate). MoonPay acquires the NFTS “through OpenSea or private OTC transactions in our network.”
  • Soto-Wright explains how the concierge service arose by accident after he helped one celebrity with an NFT purchase:
  • “Over the past several months, I’ve been talking to artists, entertainers, athletes and creatives who are all excited about the promise of NFTs to transform the way digital rights, intellectual property and fan relationships are managed. But that excitement was met with just as much confusion about how it all worked because gaining access to this world of NFTs is still so cumbersome.
  • “So I helped one artist figure it out. They told another who then asked for help. Word started to spread. And before you know it, I was spending a decent chunk of my time walking these folks through how to do everything, which has definitely been fun, but not scalable.
  • “MoonPay is dedicated to bringing the next billion people into the crypto economy. So we created MoonPay Concierge as a way to scale up the help many of these artists and creatives were looking for. It was kind of an accident.
  • “A really happy accident I’d say. 100% organic.”
